YEAR 7 DESIGN A CASTLE COMPETITION
The students were invited to design a historically accurate castle, and were encouraged to use reusable/recyclable materials within their design. We had one of our highest engagement years to date, with 29 entries. We also had to award extra house points to a select group of students this year due to the very high standard of entries. We saw a wide variety of materials used, from the traditional paper and cardboard to Lego and even solid wood. We also had entries through online platforms such as Minecraft and Fortnite. Teachers within the Humanities department and the Year 7 team, as well as previous winners of the competition voted, and the results were as follows:
1st Place= Aayla-Rose Brown (Curie)
2nd Place= Maksimilianas Meilutis (Gandhi)
3rd Place= Leona Reynolds / Indiana Vota (Ghandi)
Aayla’s design stood out from the others due to its historically accurate design. As first place winner she received 100 house points and a family ticket to Hedingham Castle, which the museum itself kindly donated to the school.
