Teacher of PE (Boys)

Teacher of PE (Boys)

Requiered for September 2017

NOR: 834

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Boys’ PE to join a friendly, very high-performing and supportive team. This position is initially for one term fixed, from September to December 2017, and results from a member of staff taking a one term sabbatical, but this may very easily extend to become a permanent post for a suitable candidate, subject to staffing circumstances. Applications are welcome from experienced and newly qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range and to engender positive relationships with young people. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through the beginning of your first year.

The department is dedicated to ensuring that every student, regardless of ability, can enjoy and achieve in PE, both within and beyond the curriculum. Hence, the successful candidate must be both passionate about sport and also intent on securing exam success for our students. Both GCSE PE and BTEC Sport options are currently offered and the department regularly achieves outstanding results, with a 100% A*-C pass rate in 2015. All members of the department contribute to the extensive extra-curricular sport offer at lunchtimes and after school.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a ‘harmonious community’ with a ‘positive learning culture’ (Ofsted, March 2015). In addition, we are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, allowing some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. The school benefits from academy status in partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous professional development opportunities exist both through this partnership and our membership of two local teaching school alliances.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.

Closing date: Wednesday 28th June at 12 noon
