We welcomed Cressida Cowell, the writer and creator of the 'How To Train Your Dragon Series' to Alec Hunter Academy to share with us the joys of reading, writing and her new book, The Wizards of Once.
Students, staff, parents and governors at Alec Hunter Academy are celebrating after a recent Ofsted inspection gave the school an overall grading of ‘good’. Having researched Ofsted reports from previous inspections as far back as records permit, leaders at the school believe that this is the first time that the school has ever achieved this judgment. Teachers and support staff are justifiably delighted to have made history with this unprecedented success.

On Friday 30th June ten year students had the opportunity to visit Cambridge University and to take part in a day of master classes in Modern Foreign Languages. The students had the chance to attend a lecture about the importance of studying Modern Foreign Languages and their vital role in society and the work place today. The group was split and the students had a chance to work with students in other schools in a lesson in the language they are studying for GCSE.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Math. STEM.
We have had a fantastic response from Year 7 students to our newly formed STEM club which takes place every Wednesday at 3.30pm – 4.40pm.
Thirty–nine Year 7 students went to Paris from 22nd – 25th April 2017. They stayed in a château – the Grande Château Romaine, in Lesigny, just outside Paris. The students had a great time. We had a day in Paris when we went up Montparnasse (a skyscraper with 56 floors!) to observe the view of Paris, visited the Eiffel Tower, went on a boat trip (Les Bateaux Mouches) on the Seine and then went to Montmartre where we explored the artists’ quarter and saw the Sacre Coeur.
A reminder that on the 25th April a skills day will be held at the school, here are a list of the activities:
- Year 7: Paris Trip / University Tour Trip / Inner Drive Sessions
- Year 8 & 9: Well-being Day
- Year 10: Hampton Court / Inner Drive
- Year 11: English Studies Day
